Candace has spent the past decade expanding her understanding of the human body, health, nutrition, disease, plants and plant medicines, natural remedies, agriculture and folk and ancestral wisdoms. She is dedicated to providing natural health and birth support to her community that is based in physiology, contemporary research, and traditional, ancestral knowledge.

 

Her goal is to support her clients and community to be empowered in their birth and health goals. ​ Candace has lived in WNC for 19 years. In 2008 she completed a BA in Anthropology at Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, NC, where she came to see that her big picture life work was to be a part of human health & healing. After WWC, she apprenticed for 2 years on organic farms in Southern Oregon and Northern California, and studied with herbalists Karyn Sanders and Sarah Holmes of The Blue Otter School of Herbal Medicine, becoming certified in Clinical Energetic Herbalism in 2010.

 

Candace and her soon to be husband Justin returned to this region with the goal of starting a farm. They both studied for three years with Herbalist Phyllis Light and received certificates as Practitioners of Herbal Medicine in 2014. They became pregnant and moved onto their new farm in Balsam the day before their son was born at home with the presence of Midwives and a few close friends. Their second son and their daughter were both born at home too. Candace was really impressed by the powerful experience that is birth and became a Certified Holistic Doula through The Matrona in 2016 soon after her first birth. She is currently enrolled in the Matrona's Birthkeeper Course to keep expanding and deepening her understanding of phyological birth and to have even more to offer to her clients. Birth is inherently transformative. Candace sees her role as a doula as that of helping pregnant women and families make informed and self directed decisions, and providing the support that assists each family through the process of experiencing their birth as their own.​
